This isÂ my final list of must-do’s to ensure you make the most out of your short visit to our city. Hopefully, the experiences you had during the convention warrant a return to catch one of the many festivals, walks/runs, conventions, entertainment venues, Broadway shows and dining out options Philadelphia has to offer. On behalf of the PRSA hospitality committee, thank you letting us share a little piece of The City of Brotherly love with you.
The tastes of Philadelphia are immediately associated with cheesesteaks and pretzels. I’ll admit it, when visitors come to Philadelphia I direct them to South Philadelphia for Pat’s or Geno’s Steaks. While you’re here, don’t leave without trying at least one, wiz with.
Also, while you’re here, make sure you experience many of the other delights Philadelphia has to offer. To experience many of the city’s hot spots, members of the Host Chapter have volunteered to escort groups of up to 10 PRSA members to some of their favorite restaurants. Let us show you that Philly food IS more then just cheesesteaks and pretzels! Â
Everyone will pay their own way, and there might be a taxi ride involved, but you’ll have the opportunity to taste some of what Philly has to offer in some of our most interesting, vibrant neighborhoods.Â You’ll be getting the “inside scoop” on where Philly Foodies like to go.Â
We will offer an interesting range of restaurants to suit various tastes. Restaurants include:
* Sabrina’s CafĂ© – One of Philly’s BYOB’s that serves breakfast all day in Bella Vista
* Penang – Malaysian cuisine in Chinatown
* El Vez – Mexican-American meets East L.A. in a Tijuana Taxi in Midtown
* La Scala – Fine Italian-American home-style cuisine in Historical Philadelphia
* Aqua – Malaysian and Thia cuisine in Washington Square
* Positano Coast – Modern Italian cuisine and seafood in Olde City
* Philadelphia Fish and Company – Seafood in Olde City
* Monk’s – Belgian pub in Rittenhouse
If you’re going to be in Philadelphia on Saturday, October 20 to take part in any of the pre-conference activities, OR, if you are not attending one of the PRSA Section Dinners on Monday, October 22, then consider joining some of your PRSA colleagues for dinner at one of Philadelphia’s many wonderful restaurants.
Look for a flyer at Registration, and/or come to the Philadelphia Chapter Booth in the Exhibit Hall, where we will have the sign-up sheet with the names and descriptions of the restaurants, and information on what time and where in the hotel to meet (most reservations will be for 7 p.m.). Spots for the escorted dining outings are limited, as we want to keep the experience relaxed and intimate, so you MUST sign-up.
If you cannot make dinner, stop by the booth and we will also have some excellent recommendations with special deals for those who want to venture on their own.

Taking in all the sights, sounds and culture our City of Brotherly Love has to offer is nearly impossible to do in less than a week; but have no fear, as we gear up to the conference I will be posting a series of “Guess what I did” must-do’s to check out while you’re visiting. Guess what I did – Danced the Mummer’s Strut
One of the many traditions in Philadelphia falls on New Year’s Day with over 15,000 local Comics, Fancies, Fancy Brigades and String Band members parading down Broad Street in elaborate handmade costumes covered in sequins and feathers to celebrate the New Year. The Philadelphia Mummers Day Parade officially started in 1901 and has continued to be a favorite festivity for many Philadelphia family generations and visitors.The good news is Mummers don’t only come out on New Year’s Day. PRSA is bringing the Hegeman String Band to you at the Meet the Exhibitors Reception Sunday night. Be prepared for Captain John Barron to teach you the Mummer’s strut while you’re listening to unique sounds of the mummers, including the famous Mummer’s tune, “Oh! Dem Golden Slippers.” Get ready to join the band with a little practice before Sunday night. To do the strut raise your right hand with your index finger in the air, stick out your butt and rock back and forth on your feet.
