The Power of the Keyword Phrase &Leveraging Your Network

Posted by Katherine Watier in March 25th 2010

I’m excited about presenting at the PRSA 2010 Association/Nonprofit Seminar today in Washington, D.C. I’m hoping that I can get folks excited about two things that have made my online marketing plans successful:

  1. Understanding the power of a keyword phrase. The popular ones and the LongTail ones.
  2. Leveraging the goodwill of people who care about your issue to become your grassroots promotional staff, whether they are members of your Facebook page or in-house interns.

Sharpen Donor Communications: Speak Your Donors’ Language

Posted by Linnie Carter in March 24th 2010

I have worked in both public relations and fundraising for many years, and I appreciate how closely linked these two professions are through shared objectives and skill sets, such as relationship building and communications. There are many of us who are comfortable in both worlds. For those who would like to be, many resources and colleagues are available to help at PRSA.

The first step is knowing how to answer the question “Why are public relations and fundraising important to nonprofit organizations?”

To nonprofit organizations throughout our country, donor communications may be the most important aspect of annual development plans. Without a strong donor communications plan, all of other efforts may be for naught.

Creative Strategies for Working With Fewer Resources

Posted by Rozanne Weissman in March 19th 2010

We’ve all been there — working hard and creating a campaign, project, program or tactic where everything is “golden.” That’s what happened with the Alliance to Save Energy’s “Drive $marter Challenge 2008” consumer campaign on fuel efficiency. We exceeded goals, won awards, developed cutting-edge tactics, and created powerful partnerships with 19 nonprofit, governmental, trade association and for-profit entities to dramatically extend the campaign’s marketing reach.

We couldn’t wait to build on this success with an even more exciting 2009 campaign. Then, reality intervened with the economic meltdown, our largest funder wanting to go in a new direction and so on.

Connecting Associations: Why “Sharing is Caring”

Posted by Sterling Raphael in March 8th 2010

I consider it an honor to be a presenter at the upcoming, the PRSA 2010 Association/Nonprofit Seminar on March 25 in Washington, D.C. PRSA has a reputation for making their events relevant, engaging and enlightening experiences.

I am sure many in the industry realize that staying current is essential to an association’s well-being. The world has changed and so have expectations for associations. While larger organizations are investing time and money to come up with the best ways to evolve, many small associations or components of larger ones, are left without the resources needed to overcome their challenges.

How Not-For-Profits Can Maximize Relationships to Drive Social Marketing

Posted by Lauren Vargas in October 28th 2008

Is what you are doing now not working any longer? Brian Reich, principal of EchoDitto Inc. and Ed Schipul, president and CEO of Schipul-The Web Marketing Company discussed how not-for-profit public relations professionals can maximize relationships by developing and implementing social marketing into strategic communications planning.

Key take-aways from this session:

  • 59% Congressional staff say they prefer to use online resources when preparing for a vote.
  • By 2010, an estimated 2/3 gift donations will be completed online.
  • New technology is changing social expectations.
  • Little (m) media rules.
    1. Information (timely and relevant)
    2. Experiences
    3. Stuff (new technology)
