All Roads Lead to Detroit for Vital Conference

Posted by Don Tanner on September 19th 2008

Very soon, thousands of public relations, marketing and communications professionals will travel from across the globe to a single point of connection here in Detroit.  I would suggest that the PRSA 2008 International Conference couldn’t be occurring at a better time or place.

Our industry is changing. With social media and the media itself evolving and morphing, what are (and will be in the future) the best ways to communicate and manage messages? Our economy is reeling. What best practices and insights can help each of our respective enterprises not only remain viable but grow?  Detroit is healing. It is vital that visitors experience for themselves the many, many positives of our city — the riverfront, Campus Martius and theater district; Eastern Market and Mexicantown; Wayne State University and the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA).

Just as important to address and discuss: the continuing transformation of our society and workforce to a multi-generational makeup like never before. Far beyond merely deciphering the new lexicon (Can you say “tweeners”?), how we address this new fact of life affects how we communicate inside and outside our companies.

When the “rules of engagement” seem to be changing almost daily, support, cooperation and collaboration within our ranks is essential.  For three days in October, we will not only share roads best traveled, but explore new paths and ideas, keeping in mind a common end goal of keeping our field ready, responsible and relevant.

We’re ready.  Welcome to Detroit.
