When asked to coordinate a Volunteer Day of Service prior to the kick off of Conference,
I jumped in with both feet. I am privileged to be working with the dedicated people from Philadelphia Soul Charitable Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, Northern Home, Bethesda Project and Project HOME in creating a day where things get done and people’s lives are changed.PRoject Soul Arise is a partnership between the Philadelphia Host Committee and the Soul Charitable Foundation to provide volunteers to some of the organization in the area that are impacting our communities. It’s about giving a few hours to do things like prepare and serve meals at Our Brother’s Place or the residences of Project HOME, or teach PR skills to the staff at Northern Home or Habitat, or painting, drywalling or cleaning up at the last of the Bon Jovi houses in South Philadelphia, or talking to kids about your career or shooting hoops with them.
I volunteer a lot. I don’t have much spare money, but I have goods that people need and skills that I can teach or use to help raise money or awareness for their cause. Time, well that seems to be more precious than money these days, but a few hours to swing a hammer or write a news release can always be found. That’s what we are asking you for… a few hours on October 19 to experience something very profound and influential. Your participation can change the life of a family in need, homeless men and women, at risk youth, and entire neighborhoods. It also can change your own life. Giving truly is a Soul moving experience.
PRSA Conference attendees are invited to take part in a Volunteer Day of Service on Friday, October 19, 2007, prior to the beginning of our Conference. PRoject Soul Arise is a partnership between PRSA’s Host Committee and The Philadelphia Soul Charitable Foundation whose mission is creating, promoting, and assisting in innovative and long lasting solutions to rebuilding pride in one’s self and one’s community–one soul at a time.
Volunteers have four opportunities from which to select with Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia, Bethesda Project, Project H.O.M.E and Philadelphia Soul Charitable Foundation. They include meal prep and service, home building, interacting with kids, and facility maintenance.
Please join us for this extraordinary occasion to give. These organizations are so grateful for your time and energy and hope you will feel a profound sense of accomplishment and appreciation. “I have found that among its other benefits, giving liberates the soul of the giver.” -Maya Angelou
