PRSA 2009 Conference Preview — Social Media, Public Relations and Health Care

Brandy Shapiro-Babin interviews Deirdre Breakenridge, who previews her PRSA 2009 International Conference presentation on “Social Media and the PR (R)Evolution: It’s Not Just PR Anymore.”

Maria Reitan interviews Kyung Han and Rachelle Spero who preview their presentation on “Sphere of Influence of Key Opinion Leaders in Health Care Social Media.”

Deirdre BreakenridgeDeirdre Breakenridge, president, director, Communications, PFS Marketwyse, is a veteran in the public relations industry. She leads a creative team of public relations and marketing executives, as well as an adjunct professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, N.J., where she teaches courses on public relations and interactive marketing for the Global Business Management program. She recently finished her fourth Financial Times business book, “Putting the Public Back in Public Relations,” co-authored by Brian Solis. She has also authored “PR 2.0, New Media, New Tools, New Audiences,” “The New PR Toolkit” and “Cyberbranding: Brand Building in the Digital Economy.”

Kyung Han is one of the founders of Empower Research, and provides leadership to the company in areas of technology and new product development. He brings valuable experience in technology, strategy consulting and project management. Kyung has been responsible for several successful new product initiatives for EmPower Research, which has helped to win marquee clients. He is the guiding force behind all technology initiatives. Clients continue to gain from his expertise in the industry and value his insights on several issues they face in their business.

Rachelle Spero, executive vice president, digital media practice, Cohn & Wolfe, and a member of the New York leadership team. She has more than 16 years of public relations, interactive marketing and reputation management experience from consulting global brands in multiple industries. Rachelle is a recognized expert in digital health communications and has written standard operating procedures and policies for a number of healthcare companies. In 2008, her digital health programming for Januvia, Merck’s first-in-class type 2 diabetes drug, won the Big Apple Award in the New Media category.
