Pull Stunts Like That and Word Spreads Fast …

Posted by Marisa Vallbona in June 2nd 2010

I’ve served as ethics officer of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) San Diego Chapter for the past five years. During that time, I’ve received numerous phone calls, e-mails and heard countless complaints from colleagues “ratting out” other colleagues about unethical behavior. They want the bad apple kicked out of PRSA or barred from practicing public relations altogether. Frankly, after hearing some of their stories, I don’t blame them. I want that too!

The problem is that the re-written PRSA Code of Ethics is not intended to be enforced.

You read that right. It’s no longer intended to be enforced.

Posted by Emmanuel Tchividjian in October 20th 2009

The principles and values in ethics are both universal and timeless. However, the applications of ethics change with time as societies evolve. How do we apply the basic ethics principles in the world of the e-mail, Internet, blogs, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and others? What is the difference between ethics in the real world and ethics in the virtual world? I see three major differences.

Speed. Things happen very fast in the virtual world. One click that will take less than one second
can cause irreparable damage, or even send you to jail!

Ethics Month Is Over; What Do You Plan to Do About It?

Posted by Ann Subervi in October 6th 2009

September brought so many wonderful things. The kids were back to school, the weather turned a bit cooler, and according to PRSA, it was ethics month. Ideally, it was a time for us to focus on the ethical aspects of our industry, our respective organizations and, perhaps, ourselves.

If you read Public Relations Tactics, PR Week, PR News, or any other industry publication, you no doubt noticed a laser-like focus on ethics last month. The question is: beyond increased awareness, is any of this moving us to action this month and beyond?
