Successful Measurement Starts With Business Objectives

Posted by Fran Stephenson in November 11th 2009

Public relations practitioners struggle with the concept of measurement. Historically, teams counted clips, dutifully sizing each story and making assessments based on advertising rates on the value of each story.  This not only undermines the quality of reporting, it reflects an old-fashioned metric called Advertising Value Equivalency (AVE).

In her presentation, “From ROI to KPI: Practical Solutions to Measurement Conundrums,” Shonali Burke, ABC, urges practitioners to start with the business objectives of your organization as a way to look at measurement.
This is a new concept for public relations professionals who aren’t used to taking “credit” for organizational success and focused on delivering “column inches” or “air time.”

Posted by Fran Stephenson in November 11th 2009

The new global conversation gives organizations unique opportunities to share a point of view. Employees of those organizations are perfectly poised to deliver messages in fresh ways. Get your employees in the conversation.

While companies are experiencing all-time lows in trust factors, employee experts still remain high as trusted sources of information. But, urged Scott, it’s not about building another community.

Analog vs. Digital: Traditional Media Fights to Remain Relevant

Posted by Fran Stephenson in November 9th 2009

The pace of change is accelerating … you’d have to live under a rock not to notice that this theme is repeatedly resonating in the sessions at the PRSA International Conference. What was interesting about this session analyzing analog versus digital media and moderated by Henry P. Feintuch, president of Feintuch Communications, and Susan Dingenthal, new media consultant for Sandusky Radio, was the varying experiences of the participants who attended.
