What Was the Best Lesson You Learned from Your Professor?

Posted by Kaye Sweetser in October 17th 2010

Coming to Conference is about extending one’s excellence in practice. We hear sea stories from our colleagues about what worked, what didn’t and we get a chance to learn about the latest trends in public relations.

But some of those little gems of lessons we learned happened a long, long time ago on a college campus in a land far, far away. Some of the most important lessons of practice we learned came from our PR professors.

In honor of Besty Plank, the first female PRSA president and a champion of education efforts, we asked attendees the recount the best lesson they learned from their PR professors.

The Accreditation in Public Relations + Military Communication (APR+M) Council conducted several Readiness Reviews in the past few days at the 2010 PRSA International Conference in Washington, D.C.

Barbara Burfiend, APR+M, is the incoming chair of the APR+M Council and she took a few moments to talk about:

  • What the APR+M really is.

  • Who should go through the APR+M process.

Take a moment to watch this short video where Barbara hits the high points of the APR+M.

APR+M Offers Military Public Affairs a Unique Accreditation

Posted by Kaye Sweetser in September 3rd 2010

When I prepared for an Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) in 2006, I quickly realized that the process was about more than a test. The process allowed me to both reflect on the highlights of my career to date and refocus on the principles of what it takes to be an excellent, ethical practitioner.

So I really don’t know why I thought that when I went through the process to transition from an APR to the newly created military-specialty APR+M that the experience would only be like a test.

Wrong again.
