Reconsidering the Digital Media Model

Posted by Bonin Bough in October 18th 2010

Having just released my first book, “Perspectives on Social Media Marketing,” with co-author Stephanie Agresta, thoughts on how to get started in this space and increase influence quickly are even more top of mind than usual. Regardless of size, I understand the importance of ROI, but think that the model of how we utilize digital media can be reconsidered.

If you or your clients are new to social media programs, I recommend initiating small-scale pilots where your results will be more easily measured and there is the opportunity to scale or re-shape the activation as the programs grow.

Behind the Scenes: Talking Politics with POLITICO in D.C.

Posted by Ashley Walters in October 18th 2010

It didn’t take long to start talking politics at thePRSA 2010 International Conference: Powering PRogress in D.C. I mean, how can you ignore it when you’re in the capital of the United States? After taking a double-decker bus tour of the city (I know … but it’s my first time to D.C.), and experiencing the rich history, I was really excited to meet Jim VandeHei, executive editor and co-founder of POLITICO, and hear his take on the upcoming election. What I didn’t expect to hear was how socially savvy he truly was.

What Was the Best Lesson You Learned from Your Professor?

Posted by Kaye Sweetser in October 17th 2010

Coming to Conference is about extending one’s excellence in practice. We hear sea stories from our colleagues about what worked, what didn’t and we get a chance to learn about the latest trends in public relations.

But some of those little gems of lessons we learned happened a long, long time ago on a college campus in a land far, far away. Some of the most important lessons of practice we learned came from our PR professors.

In honor of Besty Plank, the first female PRSA president and a champion of education efforts, we asked attendees the recount the best lesson they learned from their PR professors.

Huffington Post Founder Highlights Opening Day at PRSA’s 2009 International Conference

Posted by Dave Armon in November 9th 2009

D. Armon revised and updated this post at 3:30 PDT.

When Michael Cherenson, APR, opened the largest United States gathering of the PR profession Sunday in San Diego, he called attention to the organization’s goal to “build the business case for public relations.”

“What is needed,” said Cherenson, is a “better informed perception” of the value of public relations for communications professionals to gain more influence, hire more staff and maybe even get the budget to hire a public relations firm.

Cherenson understands the very serious theme of a profession that desperately needs to quantify its contribution to business and society.
