Public Relations IS Not Dead. Actually, In Fact, It’s Been Reborn!

Posted by Sherrie Bakshi in June 14th 2010

I am thrilled to be serving on the host committee for PRSA’s 2010 International Conference: Powering PRogress. This year’s Conference comes at a pivotal time. Disasters like the BP oil spill and the mistrust in major institutions has brought the need for public relations to the forefront. And, to be honest, it couldn’t have come at a better time.

When the economy took a downturn, many companies’ communications departments took a hit, while a number of agencies nationwide laid off thousands of highly talented professionals due to the lack of business. I can relate because I was one of thousands of public relations professionals laid off during the recession. Many organizations did not see the value of public relations because it wasn’t “a revenue generator.”

Creating Online Communities That Feel Like Home

Posted by Sharon Terry in May 17th 2010

Building an online community isn’t about creating a forum where your brand is “king” among its many loyal subjects. It’s about creating a comfortable online “home” where you engage in meaningful conversations with fans and followers.

Open the doors to your online community, let everyone in and simply walk away, and you’ll return to an almost unrecognizable “Wild West.” Every successful community needs a “sheriff” to keep the “bad guys” in check, while engaging its audience in innovative ways.

More With Bob Garfield: The Chaos Scenario Continued

Posted by Bob Garfield in October 22nd 2009

The Chaos Scenario Continued
You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll change your business model. The Chaos Scenario is a movie and I play myself!

Fabian-Baber, Team Chaos partner and educational video producer extraordinaire, has made “The Chaos Scenario” into a riveting 33-minute training video that you can stream online.

How should you use it? That’s up to you, but here are a few ideas:

  • Play it at a staff meeting.
  • Use it as programming for your PRSA Chapter meeting.
  • Show it to your college class.
  • Rent a local theater and invite your clients and prospects.

$25K of Professional Development, Beaches & a Piggyback Ride (PRSA 2009 International Conference)

Posted by Casey DeLorme in October 9th 2009

Short post this round ’cause our Conference co-chairs, Marisa Vallbona, APR, and Denis Wolcott, do the talking in this delightful video. Definitely worth the five minutes for its sunny beaches and cuteness alone.

Highlights

  1. Announcing Bob Garfield, the Conference’s third keynote speaker. Bob writes for Advertising Age and co-hosts NPR’s “On the Media.” He just published a book arguing that the long-standing, two-way partnership between advertising and content is due for a “violent rejiggering.” Learn more at Bob’s own post to this blog, The Chaos Scenario.

PRSA 2009 International Conference: Part of It’s for Fun, After All

Posted by Casey DeLorme in August 28th 2009

PRSA National asked us to do some social media/guest blogging to help give PRSA members a sense of the PRSA 2009 International Conference: Delivering Value, and San Diego (we’re hosting it).

I was tapped to take the lead partially because I immerse myself in social media (it’s the bulk of what my firm does) and because I’m relatively new to San Diego. Here just two years, I still remember what it was like before I lived in paradise.
